Testimonial from a former student
I gained insights about myself from living in the crucible of the boarding school:
- close monitoring,
- five roll calls per day,
- jacket and tie for dinner with conversation practice led at every table by a master teacher,
- weekend expeditions to harden the body,
- morning meditation,
- a challenging academic program led by passionate teachers, - cultural immersion from living with 25 nationalities,
- social skills for dealing with people who irritated me...
I learned my limits and learned to stretch because “there is more in you.” The motto “Plus en vous” (more in you) is part of what drives many “outward bound” programs, summer camps and other “experiences,” which often aim to “develop skills of leadership.”
A program at a boarding school that took two or three years on a Swiss mountain can be compressed into several weeks on a boat. That's why I support Will Sutherland's program. I am delighted that the next generation of students can have access to the challenges of living in close quarters with people from other countries. I'm pleased that teachers can visit Will's school and learn by observing his methods. Many aspects of the program are videorecorded to allow students to listen again to the “thought for the day” and to ponder deeply the feedback that students have received. Teachers can learn from these recordings and pick up some of the techniques for use in their classroom. Steve McCrea, Alpina, 1973-76
One particularly important part of the program at European Leadership School is the daily THOUGHT OF THE DAY or Daily Readings. Sometimes the reading is a quote, other times it is an article or chapter from a book. Here is a particularly powerful article about the power of "keeping your word."
Is your word worth anything?
Does what you say carry weight?
Do you complete what you say you will do?

I hope you take time to read this article. I posted this article because I said I would.
